Should Kinfolkology adopt a different definition of "Descendant"? *

Right now, Kinfolkology uses the term “Descendant” to refer to individuals with ancestors whose names appear in Oceans of Kinfolk or Louisiana Kindred, as well as individuals who feel connected to enslaved ancestors through memory and/or kinship, even if they have not found those ancestors’ names on historical documents or in databases produced from historical records. We also understand “Descendant” to refer to anyone who feels connected to Kinfolkology’s work, whether or not they have a genealogical connection to it. Do you think Kinfolkology should adopt a different definition of "Descendant" for the purposes of this project?

How should Kinfolkology implement structural parity? *

Structural parity is a model of shared organizational authority or governance developed by the Montpelier Descendants Committee. When structural parity is in place, descendants are represented—and empowered—at every level of an organization. There are, however, multiple ways structural parity might be achieved. Which of the following would you prefer?

Kinfolkology facilitates the establishment of a Descendant advisory board or committee with 501c(3) status separate and distinct from Kinfolkology personnel.

Together, Kinfolkology personnel and Descendants establish form a single 501 (c) that is itself Kinfolkology.
